Prayer

Please join us any time for prayer.

Morning Prayer: Monday through Thursday at 9am we gather as community in the sanctuary for a simple but beautiful prayer service. Typically we sing a contemplative song (you don’t have to sing if you don’t want to), share a communion with God in silence for about 20 minutes and then speak prayers for the larger communities to which we belong. It is a simple and powerful way to begin the day and a wonderful grounding for whatever awaits us later in the day. All are invited.

Taize Service: Third Tuesday of the month at 7 PM. On a small hill in the Burgundy region of France sits a vibrant community of prayer. It has become holy space for many seeking God in a deeper way. The monastery of Taize is a welcoming community that invites people from around the world to come and pray and be in community. At the heart of their style of prayer are simply sung prayers that are meant to be sung over and over again. These sung prayers have become known worldwide. On the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm we gather in the Westhope Sanctury to try and hold this same type of holy space as we practice this same style of prayer. After a brief welcome we sing several sung prayers, read two scripture passages, share about ten minutes of silence, sing a couple more sung prayers while people light candles and spend time around the cross, and then depart with a benediction. It is a beautiful time of deepening in our own sense of God with us as well as spending time together as a community. We certainly hope that you will try it at least once so that you might find the mystery and wonder of this ancient prayer style.

The outdoor Labyrinth and Sacred Spiral are always open for walking and reflection.
