Candles for the healing of our country: In response to the violence in Charlottesville last weekend, the candles on the communion table are to remind us of God’s light and justice that is clearly in opposition to racism, violence, White supremacy, and xenophobia (fear of the other). May we all find God’s vision to see the Christ in one another.

Self-care suggestions for these changing times

Thank you, Russ Ikeda! We appreciate Russ’ (and Linda’s) presence with us, and his insightful look at Peter’s walk on the water toward Jesus. May we live out of the confidence Jesus has in us.

Taize service: Tuesday evening, 7pm. Join us for a reflective evening of prayer, silence, and song.

Kick Off BBQ: September 24th after church. Stay for our annual feast of food, fun and fellowship! We will provide burgers, dogs and buns. Please bring drinks and side dishes!

Back to school support: Please consider bringing in school supplies or simple personal hygiene supplies for the kids at Monroe Middle School who need a boost to get started in this school year. A list of school supplies can be found here.

Help a family from Houston: A mom with children has moved to the area from Texas and has almost nothing. If you can donate Target or Kohl’s gifts cards, even in small amounts, that would be incredibly helpful. Please get them to the office and we will get them to the family.

New Carpet will be installed in the offices and direction rooms on Monday September 25. We will have to do some furniture moving if people are able to help, but outside of that we will simply need to be aware of the all day job that will make the offices difficult to use.

Can Crushing: September 30, 4:45pm  at Westgate Church. Come help stomp!

Flu Shots: Stay healthy in body and spirit. Free flu shots with Dr. Gary Lee, Sunday October 1 and 8

Heartfulness Meditation class after fellowship time Sunday October 1 and 8.

Session meeting October 15 after fellowship time

Book Study after fellowship time October 22nd. “If God is Love” by Philip Gulley. You can purchase your copy on Amazon, or copies will be available.

Bring your CRV-recyclable plastics so we can help build wells! Look for the barrel in the Narthex.

Please support Westhope while you shop at Amazon. Go to and select Westhope as your charity of choice. It doesn’t cost you anything and a small percentage of your total will go directly to Westhope.  Please note that you have to shop at, not the regular in order for the donation to be made.
