Janet Lee has been a physical therapist for 32 years. She has worked in multiple settings as a PT, including hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health, and the outpatient clinic. She loved working in the outpatient orthopedic clinic and studied many manual therapy techniques. Although these approaches helped patients get better, many times these were temporary solutions to their movement problems. For example, a person’s back pain was temporarily relieved but he returned 6 months later with the same issue. She felt that there was something missing in her training.
The Feldenkrais Method is about helping a person recognize that how she moves may contribute to her physical pain, and to discover that she can move in other ways that may not cause that pain. This method taps into the power of the brain and its ability to learn new ways of moving with ease. When a person is encouraged to notice herself and learn to move in new and safe ways, many avenues open up for more exploration and new learning.
